This is the place where I have seemed to find myself in the past 27 years of existence! 🙂 But in a couple of days, another year will be added up to my life long waiting season! Now when we think of a waiting in real life you go and sit and there is not much you can do. Typically you are just waiting for information from the doctor about what will happen next. Well that is how my life is, like I was in a waiting season just waiting and waiting on God. Has anyone else ever been in that place? The place where you are trying to go forward in God and you are really trusting Him but it seems like you are getting nowhere……..like you are in a room just waiting. — we’ll in my case, I usually picture myself in an Airport’s waiting area .. waiting for my flight — Well this is how I’ve been feeling for almost the rest of my life! We all find ourselves in the waiting rooms of life for different reasons maybe you are believing God for a spouse, a unsaved relative/family friend, a disobedient child, a sick loved one, a new house, a new job, money to pay your bills and the list could go on and on. BUT it seems like nothing is happening ……like you are just sitting there waiting. What we fail to realize is that just like in a natural waiting room things are going on behind the scenes on our behalf, God is working behind the scenes for us! Just because we cannot see an “earthly manifestation” does not mean that God is not working things out for us. The waiting rooms of life reveal our TRUE character because we do not like waiting! It will reveal whether we will trust God or leave Him and try something else. God was showing me things about myself that I did not even realize. When everything is going well we have a tendency to overlook things. It is not until Jesus is all we have that we discover areas we need His help. I had to realize that God was building my character to match my calling! What good is being anointed if you do not have the character to match? The waiting rooms of life are really just a places that are preparing you for where God wants to take you! Therefore, we cannot afford to sit and do nothing but we must fully rely on God!
I wanted to encourage some people who have found themselves in the waiting rooms of life that there is hope! We will be looking at a familiar passage that is usually read when anyone talks or preaches about waiting on God. They usually come from Isaiah 40:28-31. Many of us know verse 31 but have you ever really looked at verse 28?? Well I will be honest I hadn’t! I realized that I wanted the benefits of verse 31 without fulfilling the requirements of verse 28! Verse 28 calls us to recognize that God is SOVEREIGN! Despite where we are in life He is yet in control. Now that verse doesn’t really sound to cool especially when you are in the waiting room and don’t want to be there! We would rather have verse 31 filled with the blessing of those who wait without saying that God is in control! First, I believe it is important for us to understand verse 28 that God is SOVEREIGN .Despite, where we are He is yet in control! We will never be able to get out of the waiting rooms of life until we first learn to trust Jesus!
Today in our society we are not accustomed to waiting. Because of technology, we can have information immediately at our fingertips. But not just information, we can put food in the microwave and have a full dinner in a matter of minutes. However, a problem arises when we apply “microwave expectations” to our daily lives and God. For example, because of technology I am used to getting information immediately. I will never forget an experience when I had to wait for an unbelievable amount of time. I was flying to a city right outside of the city of Manila. Unfortunately things got delayed and my flight got pushed back three different times! I finally made it to the airport but was stuck there for six hours!I had to wait six hours You can imagine that I was saying things like “I will never fly this airline again in my life because I cannot depend on them to get me WHERE I need to go WHEN I need to get there!” Unfortunately, like my experience waiting at the airport, many of you have said the same thing to God about your experiences waiting in life. You are frustrated because you are not where you want to be when you thought you should get there. I don’t know why you are waiting on God. Maybe you feel like your clock is ticking and you need to get married and NO ONE has even come along. Or maybe you were believing God for a sick loved one to be healed and they seem to be getting WORSE instead of better. Or maybe you just lost your job and bills are due and you just don’t know what to do. Or finally maybe you are just at the end of your rope and God just doesn’t seem to be around to help you. You feel as though God has let you down. Like He doesn’t know that you have places to go and you don’t have time to be waiting.
We are going to look at the advice that the prophet Isaiah gives us in Isaiah 40:28-31 on how to handle being in the waiting rooms of life. God sends words of comfort through the prophet during the Babylonian exile. Israel felt as though God had abandoned them, kicked them to the curb, didn’t understand their situation, was not there when they needed Him and was ignoring their problems and issues. I personally can totally relate to how Israel must have felt because there are times when I feel as though God is not there. I cry out to God and say “Lord do you not see what is happening to me? Do you even care?” Have any of you ever found yourself asking God the same questions? We have all felt like God was not there when we needed Him. And what happens next?? We begin to have our own personal pity party and complain to other people about our problems instead of seeking the Problem Solver!
Isaiah is trying to get Israel to see that they really don’t know what they are talking about. How could they think that God has forgotten them. Isaiah wanted Israel to realize that no matter how heavy the trails become or how great the pressure is, it is NOT an indication that God has forgotten or was unconcerned about them. Isaiah is talking to many of us today as well! Just because you are going through a hard time does not mean that God has forgotten you!! We must stop allowing the enemy to come into our lives and fill our minds with lies. Although it may seem like it is making you feel better to be angry with God it is really just making you feel worse! How much sense does it make to be upset with the ONLY ONE who can solve your problems?? This is what Isaiah was trying to get Israel to realize. Isaiah describes them as Israel and Jacob( verse 27) meaning they are God’s chosen people so how could God forget them. Like Israel we are God’s CHOSEN people so how could we think that He could ever forget us? Isaiah wanted them to see that their focus was off. Isaiah 40:27-28 describes how God is SOVEREIGN meaning He is in control of EVERYTHING . We must realize who God is! When our focus is on our circumstances we forget that we serve the Creator of the Universe! Sometimes we forget who God really is and who we are to Him!
(28) Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
Isaiah was trying to get Israel to see that although they were in a rough time of waiting they must realize who God is!! Like Israel our season of waiting has gotten so tough that we forget who God really is! Isaiah reminds Israel and is reminding us that God is Sovereign and in control. He is Omnipotent and has ALL power. No problem is too big for our God to handle. He never gets overwhelmed by what is going on. He is Omniscient and knows what He is doing. God never quits, get tired or can runs out! We must stop putting human limitations on an EVERLASTING GOD.
Some of you may be wondering what it means when I say that God is Sovereign. It means that God has UNLIMITED power over the affairs of nature, history, time , and people …….basically God is in control of EVERYTHING! Many of us have a problem with seeing God as Sovereign and in control because we don’t like to wait. We would rather be in control of our own circumstances than trust that God’s way is better for us. When we truly realize that God is Sovereign it does not matter where we are in life because we know that God is in control and ordering our steps. Realizing God is Sovereign meant that I had to trust Him but also be CONTENT where He placed me. We must learn to be content regardless of our circumstances in life! Contentment is NOT the fulfillment of what you want but the realization that in Jesus you have all you need. The truth is contentment is a LEARNED behavior. I had to learn to be content because I had “wants and desires”! Like God didn’t ALREADY know that I had wants and desires. Or that He would not want what is best for me. Many times we think that God doesn’t want us to be happy and that is the FURTHEST thing from the truth! God loves us so much that He wants what is BEST for us! What is best for us is not always what we want. But we must understand that His way is better! Maybe God is closing the door on some things in your lives not be mean but to SHIELD you from a lot of heart ache! You must learn to embrace every station of life because God is ordering your steps. God wants you to learn to function and go through life with a spirit of contentment. The only way we are able to do this is when we see life from God’s point of view. You must focus on what you are to do, not what we think we should have. Contentment relates to your trust in God NOT whether or not you arrive at some destination determined by our society.
Therefore, you can be content even when you are in the waiting rooms of life because you know that God is still SOVEREIGN!
No matter where you are in life you can still have peace because God is in control! When you truly realize that God is Sovereign you can stop stress over every detail of your life because you can rest in Jesus.
Like always I would love to hear from you just hit me up!
God is Sovereign! 🙂
